CITY GUIDE · PLAYA DEL CARMEN
Beachfront resorts, villa hideaways and park-linked all-inclusives along the Riviera Maya, from Mayakoba to Xpu-Ha.
Most of the hotels on this list sit outside the town centre of Playa del Carmen, so it helps to pick your area first. Mayakoba is a gated resort community just north of town, with lagoons, mangroves, a golf course and several resorts sharing the same grounds. Kanai, a little further along the coast, is a quieter beachfront development with two hotels. Xpu-Ha, roughly midway between Playa del Carmen and Tulum, is the place for a calm bay and a slower pace. The park-linked Xcaret hotels suit travelers who plan to spend their days at the Xcaret parks, and the all-inclusives along the highway north of town suit couples who want everything on site.
