New York's luxury hotels sit in roughly four areas. Along the south edge of Central Park, The Plaza faces the fountain at Grand Army Plaza, with the park right above you. On Midtown's Fifth Avenue and Park Avenue, The Peninsula, Baccarat and the Waldorf Astoria each hold down an old address. At Columbus Circle, Mandarin Oriental occupies the upper floors of the Time Warner Center, with the park and the Hudson River outside the window. Further south, the new Ritz-Carlton in NoMad and Four Seasons Downtown represent a different New York: the buildings are new, the crowds thinner and the rates a bit lower. We picked the seven hotels in this article one by one from the New York properties available under our perk programs.

26 hotels in New York City hold MICHELIN Keys, second only to London and Paris. Three of the seven here, the Ritz-Carlton NoMad, The Peninsula and Baccarat, hold one Key each.

A word on how we check prices. Every price below is for a November 1, 2026 check-in, a 3-night stay, 2 adults, tax included, on the advisor channel. We take the 3-night total and divide by 3 to get the average nightly rate, in US dollars. The advisor channel is the rate we can get when we book for clients as an accredited travel advisor. It adds a set of perks you can't get through public channels, such as breakfast, a room credit and upgrades subject to availability. The specific perks for each hotel are described in its own section, and before booking we confirm them with the hotel one by one and put them on the client's confirmation.

The hotels are ordered from the lowest to the highest average nightly rate, so you have a sense of the range as you read.

Our full list of perk hotels (over 3,000 properties) is here: Global Luxury Hotel Perks List. It opens with New York hotels already filtered, and we can check prices for any of them just as we do in this article.

The Plaza New York exterior seen from Central Park

The hotel opened in 1907 with a white French Renaissance facade. It has been managed by Fairmont since 2018 and has 282 rooms, 102 of them suites.

For dining, the Palm Court is New York's long-established afternoon tea room, under the stained-glass dome that has been overhead since the hotel opened in 1907. There are also the Champagne Bar and the Rose Club, both often used as movie settings.

If you want to step into the most classic postcard picture of New York, this is the first stop you can't skip.

Four Seasons Hotel New York Downtown

City view from a Four Seasons Hotel New York Downtown room

Four Seasons Downtown is at 27 Barclay Street, in the lower floors of an 82-story tower. It opened in September 2016, with architecture by Robert A.M. Stern and interiors by Yabu Pushelberg. It has 189 rooms and suites, some with private terraces. It sits between City Hall and the World Trade Center, within walking distance of everything from Tribeca to Wall Street.

For dining, CUT by Wolfgang Puck on the third floor is the chef's only restaurant in New York, taking a modern steakhouse approach. The wellness area has a 23-meter indoor heated pool open only to guests and residence owners, plus a spa with seven treatment rooms and a gym overlooking Downtown.

If you want to avoid the Midtown crowds but still want new facilities and a big pool, nothing in Downtown competes with this one.

The Ritz-Carlton New York, NoMad

The Ritz-Carlton NoMad is on West 28th Street, in a new 50-story tower designed by Rafael Viñoly Architects. It opened in 2022 with 219 rooms, 31 of them suites. This area used to be Manhattan's flower market, and the interior design follows that thread, with greenery and floral arrangements running through the property.

For dining, everything is run by Spanish chef José Andrés. Zaytinya serves Middle Eastern small plates with Turkish, Greek and Lebanese influences, The Bazaar is his signature avant-garde restaurant, and the top-floor Nubeluz, about 150 meters above the ground, is one of New York's few high-altitude bars.

If you want a new building with a celebrity chef's restaurants downstairs, this is the top choice in the area south of Midtown.

Reference rate: most of the year (except certain peak-season dates), about US$896–1,566 per night before tax. For a November 1, 2026 check-in, the advisor-channel average is US$1,527 per night including tax, US$4,580 for 3 nights. This rate is non-refundable. The hotel has 239 rooms and suites, 54 of them suites. Rockefeller Center is a few blocks south, and Central Park is a few minutes' walk north.

For dining, the rooftop bar Pen Top (formerly Salon de Ning) has two terraces overlooking the Fifth Avenue skyline. The spa is on the top floor, with an indoor pool.

If you want the heart of Fifth Avenue, with an old building and modern service, this is a safe choice.

Waldorf Astoria New York

Art Deco facade entrance of the Waldorf Astoria New York

The Waldorf Astoria sits on Park Avenue. When it opened in 1931 it was the largest hotel in the world, and its Art Deco lobby and clock tower are landmark-level interiors in New York. The hotel closed for renovation in 2017 and reopened in 2025. The room count was cut to 375, giving more space to the separately sold residences, and the spa grew to about 2,800 square meters.

For dining, Peacock Alley reopened after the renovation, and the Steinway piano in the middle is the same one composer Cole Porter played while he lived at the hotel. The new two-level restaurant Lex Yard is run by Michael Anthony, the chef behind Gramercy Tavern, and there is also a Japanese kaiseki restaurant, Yoshoku.

If you have a soft spot for old-school New York luxury, this one is worth a special trip now that it is back.

Baccarat is on 53rd Street, right next to the Museum of Modern Art. It opened in March 2015 as the crystal brand's first venture into hotels, with 114 rooms and suites, the smallest in this article.

For dining, the Grand Salon has a ceiling about 10 meters high hung with Baccarat crystal chandeliers and serves breakfast, afternoon tea and evening cocktails. It is one of the more refined afternoon teas in New York. The spa and heated pool are on the lower level, and the theme runs throughout, from the lobby chandeliers to the crystal pieces in the rooms.

If you want to stay in a space that takes crystal to the extreme, this one is unique in New York.

Mandarin Oriental occupies the upper floors of the Time Warner Center at Columbus Circle, from the 35th to the 54th floor, with 202 rooms and 46 suites. Most floors have views of Central Park or the Hudson River. The hotel opened in 2003 and was Mandarin Oriental's first in New York.

The spa and pool area are on the upper floors, with panoramic park views from the gym and poolside. The hotel's bar area has long been a place where people on Manhattan's West Side meet clients.

If you want high-floor park views without being too far from Lincoln Center, this one suits well.

Conclusion

From The Plaza to Mandarin Oriental, these seven New York hotels are very different in style, but each holds its own on its own terms. For old New York grandeur, look at The Plaza and the Waldorf Astoria. For the center of Fifth Avenue, look at The Peninsula. For design, Baccarat. For a new building and celebrity-chef restaurants, the Ritz-Carlton NoMad. For avoiding the crowds and having a big pool, Four Seasons Downtown. For high-floor park views, Mandarin Oriental.

The Midtown hotels (The Peninsula, Baccarat, the Waldorf Astoria) are closest to Rockefeller Center and the Fifth Avenue shopping district, and suit a trip built around shopping and shows. The Plaza and Mandarin Oriental guard the south and southwest corners of Central Park, and suit a trip where the park itself is part of the vacation. The Ritz-Carlton NoMad and Four Seasons Downtown are a little away from Midtown, but they win on newer facilities and thinner crowds, and their rates are a notch lower.

These prices are the perk-channel rates we can get as an accredited travel advisor. They add breakfast, a room credit and welcome amenities that public channels don't offer.

If any of these seven catches your eye, book with us at the cash rate and you get these perks, with no membership to maintain and no minimum to reach. What you save is real money.
